Relationally Responsive Expert Trustworthiness

Social epistemologists often operationalize the task of indirectly assessing experts’ trustworthiness to identifying whose beliefs are more reliably true on matters in an area expertise. Not only does this neglect philosophically rich space between belief formation and testimonial utterances, it also reduces reliability. In ethics trust, by contrast, explicitly relational views trust include things like good will responsiveness. One might think that aspects can be safely set aside for social epistemology experts, such considerations may relevant personal relationships but not expert trustworthiness. Against these claims I argue social-epistemic relevance end discuss three sorts – responsively positive, neutral, negative factors make a difference
